Inclusive Spaces
Inclusive spaces create a nurturing, inclusive and supportive atmosphere for everyone who visits.
The interfaith meditation room is accessible during the Commons’ operating hours, and is only open to VCU students, staff, and faculty.
The room is dedicated to those members of the VCU community who seek a quiet place to reflect, meditate or pray.
Please respect these few guidelines so that all may feel comfortable in this special place.
The Interfaith Meditation Room (University Student Commons room 156) is for individual quiet reflection, meditation, contemplation, or prayer. Guidelines for use of the space are:
- Silence and mutual respect are expected at all times.
- All electronic devices should be in silent mode. Headphones or earbuds must be used for audio and should be kept low so as to not disturb others.
- The room is not to be used as a lounge, meeting, nap, or study space.
- The space is available on a first come, first served basis. The room can be used by multiple people at the same time.
- Food and beverages are discouraged.
- No candles, incense, or any other flammable items are permitted. No strong fragrances.
- Please leave the space as you found it. The Commons is not responsible for unattended items. Items left behind will be taken to the Lost & Found.
- The Commons employees maintain the space and may enter periodically.
- Nothing should be stored in the room
Similar to Little Free Libraries, the boxes address student food insecurity by providing free nonperishable food and other goods. It is located across Fraternities and Sororities Office (106).
The VCU Ram Pantry exists to assist full time students who have a financial need for food. The main Ram Pantry is located at 930 West Grace St., Richmond, VA.
The Commons has an all gender accessible restroom located on the second floor. (236 + 237)
